Gerald Moore Gallery is pleased to invite submissions to this year’s Open Call Essential Structure.
With artwork devoid of pictorial and decorative content and stripped of external references, Minimalism was one of the most important and influential movements of the late Modernist era of the 1960s and early 70s. Its features included an emphasis on pure abstract form, specific materials, and precise, clean presentation. Its impact can still be seen, not just in the artworld, but also in design, architecture, literature, and music.
The exhibition Essential Structure aims to survey the spirit of Minimalism in the work of artists today, and examine how its principals continue to inspire creativity in a variety of media.
This is an open call for artwork influenced by ideas of Minimalism and its broader interpretations. We are requesting the submission of relevant pre-existing works from artists based in London and the South East.
Selected works will be exhibited in July 2024 at the Gerald Moore Gallery.
Submissions can be painting, sculpture, photography, drawing, print, or mixed media. All backgrounds and experience levels are welcome to submit.
Exhibition dates: 6th – 27th July 2024.
