Final week to view NOW 2023

Final week to view NOW 2023. Exhibition closes this Saturday 25 November 2023 at 4pm.

See Can You Hear the Djinn in the Trees? by Abdulmohsen Al Bin Ali, a 7-min long, two channel projected experimental stop motion animation intended to be the first instalment of a larger series of the same name.

Populated by strange characters and creatures and filled with a rich variety of symbolism, the first volume follows five characters in a mythical valley of a long-gone era, hidden in the mountains of the Arabian peninsula.

The story echoes the poetic nature of the Bedouin oral storytelling as well as reassembles and restructures several plots from Arabian folklore, while the visual aesthetics are drawn from various indigenous, mythological, anthropological, and archaeological references of Arabian cultures.
